On September 5th my wife and I celebrated the birth of our first child. I was overjoyed and relieved when I performed my first act as a father and counted the child’s fingers and toes. I marveled at God’s grace and mercy when the doctor declared we were the parents of a perfectly health little boy.

by Troy Tysdal | Our Lord works through us, to bring encouragement to one another, and to bring light to those in darkness. We may not be called to baptize in the Jordan, or to shout from street corners, but we are called to be witnesses in our community and to the ends of the earth.

Children of the Promise

Children of the Promise

By the power of his Word and his Holy Spirit, God penetrates the hardened hearts of nonbelievers, people as helpless as the stones in the river, and they are transformed into children of Abraham, children of the promise—not by birth, but by faith.

Captain Smith felt invincible as the Titanic sailed in the cold icy Atlantic toward its doom. Warnings! Since the beginning of time, humankind has ignored warnings.

Jesus voluntarily left his throne in heaven to enter our world. He existed before the beginning, and yet he lowered himself to be born, as a child, fully human, in a manger. At his baptism he had no sin to confess, and yet he entered the water, humbling himself, to identify with us. Why? The short answer is, love!

Big Picture

Big Picture

Like the people of Judea, our expectations of Jesus don’t always match the promises made to us in Scripture. We want to shape and mold Jesus into our own personal god. A god that protects our finances, our families, and our freedoms. This is a king we can accept, but is it the king we need? Scripture is always challenging us to see the big picture.
